This charming freestanding weatherboard cottage, nestled in an elevated leafy street in Balmain, Sydney, underwent an extensive renovation to restore its original beauty while expanding its footprint to meet the needs of a growing family of four. The homeowners desired a space that was both livable and sophisticated, with a timeless quality that would endure for years.

Drawing inspiration from the surrounding natural environment, we carefully selected colours that complement the area’s greenery. The calming sage green in the kitchen harmonises with the native Australian trees visible from the home. Limestone and travertine were featured throughout, adding warmth and depth, while referencing the rich heritage of Balmain. The design of the home blends mid-century modern, traditional, and contemporary elements. A layered approach to colour and texture was applied, with highlights such as wallpaper, mixed marbles, and carefully chosen paint colours, each contributing to a thoughtful and cohesive interior.
